I took part in the 2023 GMTK 48-hour game jam last summer, creating the style and all visual assets for a team of two programmers. Our game, Fisherman’s Fiend, addressed the game jam’s theme of Role Reversal by having the player take control of a lovecraftian sea monster, flinging its tentacles up to the surface to fish for fishermen. Being made in 48 hours, the game is rough around the edges, but we managed to not only craft our gameplay loop but also implement a simple day/night cycle, upgrade system, and a “fishermanomicon” which keeps track of all the different types of fishermen you’ve caught during your game.
